SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

Seren Arts London

“Seren Arts” refers to Seren Arts London operated by Donna Stevens as a sole trader, with a registered address 77 Midmoor Road London SW12 0ES.

Seren Arts is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all children. The welfare of the child is our highest priority.

All Seren Arts managers receive safeguarding training from the Institute of Children's Activity Providers (ICAP) to recognise signs of abuse.  

Child disclosure

Should a child disclose details concerning an allegation of child abuse, physical, emotional, sexual or neglect being made against them, Seren Arts staff will:

  • Listen carefully and remain neutral, allowing the child to speak freely

  • Ask only open-ended questions and not ask leading questions

  • Avoid making promises they cannot keep

  • Reassure the child and calmly explain the next steps

The staff member will immediately report the disclosure to the school manager. The manager will record:

  • The details of the disclosure

  • Date, time, and location

  • Individuals present

This record will be shared with the Seren Arts Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who will advise on next steps and required actions.

Staff observations

The staff member will immediately report the disclosure to the school manager. The manager will record:

  • The details of the disclosure

  • Date, time, and location

  • Individuals present

This record will be shared with the Seren Arts Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who will advise on next steps and required actions.

Allegations against staff

If an allegation is made against a Seren Arts staff member:

  • The individual may be suspended or removed from duties pending investigation

  • Seren Arts will follow all applicable safeguarding and legal procedures

  • The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) will take immediate action and consult with appropriate authorities

Reporting child abuse

All Seren Arts schools are required to make themselves aware of their local authority contact information for reporting incidents of child abuse.  

Following investigation of an incident, the DSL would report any allegations of harm to a child to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and/or the police as soon as reasonably practicable.

Any allegations made against a staff member that are found to be true will be reported to the Disclosure and Barring Service (UK) in accordance with UK safeguarding requirements.

Reports will be made as soon as reasonably practicable in line with UK safeguarding requirements.

Emergency Situations:

If a child is in immediate danger, staff must call 999 and contact the Metropolitan Police Service.

Confidentiality & record keeping

All safeguarding concerns, disclosures, and reports will be:

  • Documented accurately and stored securely

  • Shared only with relevant safeguarding personnel and authorities

  • Handled in accordance with UK data protection and safeguarding standards

Seren Arts is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all children. The welfare of the child is our highest priority.

All Seren Arts staff are mandated reporters under California law and are legally required to report suspected child abuse or neglect.

Staff observations

If a member of staff suspects that a child may be experiencing abuse or neglect, they must:

  • Report concerns immediately to the school manager

  • Ensure the concern is documented in writing

The school manager will review and share all documentation with the Safeguarding Lead (SL) for further action.
